Summer is officially over but nobody has told our cucumbers; they are producing better now than they did all summer! It is probably because we had such a hot summer this year. In contrast early autumn has been warm but not too hot so the vegetables are very happy! We love eating fresh cucumbers but sometimes there are a few too many to handle. At the moment we are picking a couple of them every other day! We have had an oversupply of cucumbers other years too and we have found it hard to keep … [Read more...]

October Gardening Plus What’s Going on in My Garden
Now that we are well and truly into spring there is a lot happening in the garden. Our apple trees are blossoming now and the other fruit trees have all got their new leaves. With everything coming back to life it is great being out in the garden and I am looking forward to getting stuck into my October gardening jobs! We are hoping that most of the really cold weather is … [Read more...]
September Gardening Plus What’s Going on in My Garden
The weather has been so lovely over the last few days which has really made it feel like it is spring already. August Gardening Plus What’s Going on in My Garden!
It’s so great to be writing about August gardening! I don’t really want to be wishing the year away but now that August is almost here it means that spring is just around the corner -yippee! Potato and Pumpkin Soup
I don’t know why it has taken me so long to try pumpkin soup! It’s not like it’s a new concept; people have been making pumpkin soup for years! It’s just not something that I have wanted to try; it always seemed that it would be a bit boring after the first couple of mouthfuls. This year though we have lots of pumpkins in storage so I was determined to try cooking pumpkin soup to see if I would like it. Gee was I surprised at just how good it is and also how easy it is to make! I have to say, … [Read more...]

Wow, where have the last six months gone? It seems like only yesterday that we were celebrating the New Year and now I am writing about my July gardening jobs! It is so hard to believe that we are almost into the middle of winter already. The best thing about July is the feeling that spring is not far away. During June the afternoons are so short because it is getting dark by 5pm. By July we are well past the shortest day and slowly but surely the days are getting longer. Another reason why I … [Read more...]
June Gardening Plus What’s Going on in My Garden!
Well June is here and the days are definitely getting shorter. I am really missing the longer days of summer! In the summer we could leave going out into the garden until 4 o’clock and still have hours of daylight to work. Now the sun goes down a little after 5 o’clock so we have to start much earlier! We might have to start scheduling our June gardening jobs for the morning so that we have more time to get everything done! It is amazing how the focus in the garden changes as we head into … [Read more...]
