Ingredients
- 2 ½ cups of self-raising flour
- pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- ¾ cup of milk
- 2 teaspoons of cinnamon
- ½ cup of sultanas
- 1 Granny Smith apple – (peeled and grated just before you use it)
Instructions
- Sift the flour and salt.
- Add the sugar and rub in the butter until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.
- Make a well in the middle of the flour mixture and then add the milk, cinnamon, sultanas and freshly grated apple and work the mixture into a soft dough.
- Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead lightly.
- Press or roll the dough out to about ½ inch thick and then cut into desired shapes.
- Place scones onto a lined baking tray and glaze the tops with milk.
- Bake at 200 °C (400 °F) for 15 – 20 minutes.

I made 18 scones using a 5 cm (2 inch) round cutter.
