Last updated on: March 31, 2021 By Kaylene Filed Under: Breads, Easter, Holidays & Special Occasions, Recipes Leave a Comment

Buns are shown still joined together on baking paper and on a cooling rack.

The whole family will love these soft and fluffy Mini Hot Cross Buns fresh from the oven! They are so hard to resist with their delicious fruitiness and yummy spices. In the past I have never been a big fan of hot cross buns; or fruit buns of any description actually! I’m not sure why I didn’t like them, but as I’ve grown older, I’ve come to appreciate their fruitiness and the yummy spices. Mostly I love homemade hot cross buns. The store-bought ones are okay but homemade is so much better. … [Read more...]

Last updated on: October 12, 2019 By Kaylene Filed Under: Christmas, Desserts, Holidays & Special Occasions, Recipes 2 Comments

This plum pudding is packed with fruit and is nice and rich just like a Christmas pudding should be! thelinkssite.com

One of my favourite things about Christmas is being able to have some Christmas plum pudding! There is nothing better on Christmas day than topping a big piece of plum pudding with some cream and ice cream. Some will add custard too, but I’m not a big custard fan! ;) The Christmas puddings we had when I was kid were usually store bought ones but I loved them anyway. It was a taste that we only had on Christmas so cutting the plum pudding was very exciting! Over the years I have fallen out … [Read more...]

Last updated on: October 27, 2019 By Kaylene Filed Under: Candy, Christmas, Holidays & Special Occasions, Recipes Leave a Comment

It’s a while since I have eaten honey joys; they used to be one of my favourite snacks as a kid! We didn’t have them all the time, but at birthday’s and school fetes they always made an appearance. Regular honey joys are made with plain Cornflakes but I decided to use Crunchy Nut Cornflakes just to give them a subtle twist. Traditionally honey joys don’t have any chocolate in them either. But I wanted … [Read more...]

Simple Puff Pastry Bones for Halloween

Last updated on: September 8, 2019 By Kaylene Filed Under: Appetizers, Halloween, Holidays & Special Occasions, Recipes Leave a Comment

Several bone shaped puff pastry snacks on a plate. A small bowl of tomato sauce can also be seen on the plate.

I had this cool idea for some Halloween appetizers a few weeks back but I didn’t know how they would turn out. I thought that I could use a bone shaped cookie cutter to cut out some puff pastry bones. But I wasn’t sure what to top them with. I did some trial runs with herbs and sesame seeds and they were nice, but they didn’t really excite me. My idea was to have some appetizers that were really easy to make but also tasty. My first attempt lacked flavour so I had another try. The next … [Read more...]
