Rose Care - Pink Rose

I have just finished pruning the beautiful roses that I have in my garden using the great rose pruning tips that I found last year.  When I was finished I also wondered about other aspects of rose care, in particular fertilizing and when I should so it.   One of the rose pruning links from last year suggests that roses should be fertilized 3 weeks after pruning. This got me interested in finding out more about rose care with respect to the type of fertilizer that I should use and when … [Read more...]

Diosmas: A Very Hardy Plant for Your Garden

Last updated on: July 6, 2019 By Kaylene Filed Under: Flowering Plants, Gardening, My Garden, Shrubs 35 Comments

Diosma is the common name for the Coleonema Pulchrum plant. Diosmas are not often talked about but I believe the diosma plant was very fashionable in the 1980’s. However, in recent years it has lost its appeal somewhat. I am surprised that the diosma plant is not used more often because it is an evergreen shrub that provides colour and texture to the … [Read more...]

When I was growing up there were always hydrangea plants growing in the garden but I have never really appreciated the beauty of this plant’s large blooms until now. After searching online for more information about the variety I realised that there was so much more to learn … [Read more...]

Irises: How Do I Grow Them Successfully?

Last updated on: July 24, 2013 By Kaylene Filed Under: Flowering Plants, Gardening, Irises Leave a Comment

I am growing irises at home and recently posted some links showing how to transplant them under the heading Irises: When and How Should I Transplant Them?   Since then I have also been looking into other aspects of iris care. In particular I had heard that irises will not flower if their bulb does not get any direct sunlight so I have been looking into this.   I have included links to three great sights that provide quite detailed information about how to grow and care for … [Read more...]

My family are keen gardeners and recently we have started growing irises. The question that arose recently was When and how should I transplant my Irises?   I found a couple of sites that gave quite detailed information on when and how to transplant Irises and so I have included the links bellow.
