For these posts I usually like to share a photo of something that I saw in my garden during the previous month. This month I’m sharing a photo of a tromboncino that I took in late October. We grew tromboncino for the first time last summer and they’re going to a regular in our summer vegetable garden from now on! I had never heard of a tromboncino plant until earlier last year. Now I can’t imagine not having some growing in the veggie patch! They’re such a funny looking vegetable; I love the … [Read more...]
Links I Love from September
Wow this year is going so fast! I can’t believe that we’re already into October and I’m looking back at September. Before you know it we’ll be talking about Christmas! I’m still trying not to think about Christmas at the moment, but that will have to change later this month. That’s because I usually make my Christmas cake in late October or early November. For now anyway I’ll keep denying that Christmas is fast approaching! The photo that I am sharing with this month’s links I love is of one … [Read more...]
Links I Love from August
Sometimes we can get a bit of warm weather in August but it was fairly cool this year. While I’m looking forward to the warmer weather I’m not too sad that it’s still cold. That’s because where I live when the weather warms up the snakes come out! And that means that our two cats become confined to inside the cat nets. Over the winter when there is no risk of coming across any snakes we allow the cats to roam around the garden with us. They actually don’t seem to mind the nets (we have a … [Read more...]
Links I Love from July
Today I’m sharing some of the cool links that I found during July. They are sure to inspire you to get baking and crafting! For this month’s Links I Love post I wanted to share a photo of one of the primulas growing in our back garden. I wanted to share it because we didn’t plant any primulas; some just came up by themselves! In fact it has been a few years since we have had any primulas growing in that part of the garden. We had some landscaping done in that area of the garden this time … [Read more...]
Links I Love from June
There are so many great ideas that people share online. Here are some of the great links that I found during June that should motivate you to get baking and crafting! There aren’t many plants flowering in our garden at the moment. However, one container plant that looks gorgeous at this time of year is the Zygocactus (Schlumbergera). This plant is often referred to as the Christmas cactus because it blooms around Christmas time in the northern hemisphere. If, like me, you live in the … [Read more...]
Links I Love from May
The first few months of the year have been so dry in the garden; we didn’t know when we would be able to take a break from watering! We had to wait until May (last month of autumn!) to get some decent rain. It’s so good to hear the sound of rain on the roof and know that the WHOLE garden is getting a good drink. One downside of getting good rain is that the moisture starts the weeds growing. So now I’ll have to be on my toes and check the garden beds for weeds regularly. It’s tempting to stay … [Read more...]
Links I Love from April
As we look back at April I wanted to share this photo of one of our yuccas in bloom. They have a rather large flower spike that is covered in lots of smaller white flowers. They’re a bit hard to get a good photo of because they are right on top of the plant. Most of the yuccas we have a quite tall (probably over 2 metres) so I’d have to get onto a ladder to take a really good photo! I like this one though because it shows the yucca leaves, the white flowers, and it has the beautiful blue … [Read more...]
Links I love from March
Whether you’re into craft, baking, or gardening (or perhaps your into all three) you’ll want to check out these great links from March! For this month’s Links I Love I just had to share a photo of the marigolds in my vegetable garden! Originally I bought them to help deter bugs in the veggie garden. But now I love them because they are so pretty. Most of the vegetables are dying back because of the cold but the marigolds are still going strong! Actually I think that I planted them a bit … [Read more...]
