As we look back at April I wanted to share this photo of one of our yuccas in bloom. They have a rather large flower spike that is covered in lots of smaller white flowers. They’re a bit hard to get a good photo of because they are right on top of the plant. Most of the yuccas we have a quite tall (probably over 2 metres) so I’d have to get onto a ladder to take a really good photo! I like this one though because it shows the yucca leaves, the white flowers, and it has the beautiful blue … [Read more...]
Links I love from March
Whether you’re into craft, baking, or gardening (or perhaps your into all three) you’ll want to check out these great links from March! For this month’s Links I Love I just had to share a photo of the marigolds in my vegetable garden! Originally I bought them to help deter bugs in the veggie garden. But now I love them because they are so pretty. Most of the vegetables are dying back because of the cold but the marigolds are still going strong! Actually I think that I planted them a bit … [Read more...]
Links I Love from February
Now that we are into March it is official autumn! It doesn’t quite feel like autumn yet though because the days are still quite warm. We had a funny end to summer actually this year because February was uncharacteristically mild. We have had some fairly warm days but they haven’t been as hot as usual. Plus the nights have been nice and cool and that seems to make a big difference. It’s a bit of a contrast to last February which was very hot and uncomfortable! Actually last February was … [Read more...]
Links I Love from December and January
Boy oh boy, did we have a hot January! Even though it’s the middle month of summer, often we get mild weather in January and then it heats up in February – not this year! The first half of the month started off pretty standard but the heat really ramped up in the second half. At one point we had 12 days in a row that reached 35 °C (95 °F) or above! One day we even reached 43.5 °C (110 °F)! Usually February is much hotter than January but so far February’s weather is very pleasant. The nights … [Read more...]
Links I Love from November
The weather has been up and down these last few weeks. We had hot days and hot nights towards the end of November but the start of December has been quite cool. We have had plenty of rain over the last few weeks too. That has been good for the garden but unfortunately the weeds have enjoyed the rain as well. So we have still been weeding when we have normally finished our springtime weeding by now! We’ve got some tromboncino plants growing in the veggie garden this year. We decided to grow … [Read more...]
Links I Love from October
I like to share a photo from my garden for these posts each month. Usually it’s a photo of something that was going on in the garden during the previous month. This month’s photo is of some of our beautiful bearded irises! These flowered in late October and they looked so pretty. They don’t flower for as long as I’d like but an Instagram friend told me that is because they are in full sun. It is amazing what you can learn on Instagram! Actually these irises are planted along a fence at the … [Read more...]
Links I Love from September
Even though this month’s Links I Love post is looking back at September I am definitely looking forward to summer. Warmer days spent in the garden are fast approaching and with that comes some delicious home grown fruit! Our plum and apricot trees blossomed a few weeks ago but the apple trees are just bursting into flower now! I took the above photo a few days ago of our granny smith apple tree with the apricot tree in the background. I just love how the apple blossom is pink when in bud and … [Read more...]
Links I Love from August
If you’re into baking, crafting, gardening, and DIY then you’re in the right place. Scroll down to see some of the awesome and inspirational links that I found during August! Mother Nature can’t seem to make up her mind about whether it’s winter or spring at the moment. We get a couple of nice days and then we seem to bounce back to cold, wet and wintery days! Most days it looks like spring because all the trees are in blossom, but the wind is so icy cold! I don’t get much done in the garden … [Read more...]
