This virgin mojito is easy to make and very refreshing on a hot summer’s day! It’s non-alcoholic and all you need is lemon, mint, sugar, and Sprite!
When you have been outside in the garden working or if the weather is super-hot there is nothing more thirst quenching than a big glass of chilled water! I try and drink the recommended 8 glasses of water a day, and most days I don’t have any trouble meeting that quota! That’s because water has no taste, so you can drink it with every meal and you don’t have to worry about if it will clash with the food!
As much as I like water it is nice to have some other drinks as well. When you are looking for a refreshing summertime drink you can’t go past a lemon based drink! Aside from plain water I find that lemon drinks are very satisfying on a hot day. So today I am sharing a recipe for a Virgin Mojito using fresh lemon juice!
To be honest I had never had a mojito until this summer but after I came across this recipe for a Virgin Mojito I thought that the lemon and mint flavour combination was wonderful. I love that it is a non-alcoholic mojito because I wanted a drink that I could enjoy at any time of day. I understand that an alcoholic mojito has rum in it and you could easily add some rum to this recipe if you wanted to turn it into a proper cocktail!
We always have a pot of mint growing during the summer and usually have lemons in the house so this drink is very easy to put together in a hurry! Also, because it’s non-alcoholic it is great for the whole family. This would be a wonderful drink to prepare to take to a spring or summer picnic or BBQ!
I wanted to be able to keep the sugar content down so I have adjusted the recipe just slightly. I have enjoyed the refreshing taste of this virgin mojito several times over the summer and I know that I will be making it again next summer too!
- 20 mint leaves
- 2 tablespoons of sugar
- 1 large lemon
- ice cubes
- 500 ml of Sprite
- Roughly tear up the mint leaves and chop the lemon into small wedges removing the seeds as you go.
- Divide the mint and lemon wedges between two glasses and then add one tablespoon of sugar to each glass.
- Use a muddler or the end of a wooden spoon to crush the mint, lemon and sugar together.
- Add several ice cubes to each glass and then fill with chilled Sprite.

We use Agave nectar instead of sugar. Such a refreshing summer drink!
