I haven’t had an ink stain on any of my clothes for such a long time. I actually can’t remember the last time that I had to seriously think about ink stain removal. I’m not complaining mind you!
Last week though I was using my legs as a desk while I made some quick notes and, you guessed it, I managed to get a big blue pen mark on the knee of my jeans! It probably wouldn’t have been a big problem if I was wearing blue jeans. But no, I wasn’t wearing blue jeans was I! I just happened to be wearing my light brown jeans and that pen mark really stood out! 🙁
I had to have a chuckle to myself though, because only a few days earlier I had shared a tip on ink stain removal in my Links I Love post! Isn’t it funny when you come across a handy hint that you think may come in handy ‘one day’ and that ‘one day’ turns out to be this week!
I was so pleased that I had come across this tip because normally I would have spent quite a bit of time trying to remove the stain. Often the best result that you can get with ink stains is that the stain fades a bit but it can still be seen!
I didn’t want to condemn these jeans to the ‘gardening clothes’ category so I decided to give the ink stain removal tip that I had seen at Lil’ Luna a try. It involved spraying the stain liberally with hairspray, giving it a bit of a scrub and then putting it in the wash as normal.
It seemed a bit scary at first spraying a stain with hairspray. I mean spraying any stain with something that is designed to stiffen and hold feels a bit wrong! Wouldn’t you agree?
It was quite a simple process though. I sprayed the ink stain with hairspray and then waited 15 minutes for it to dry off a bit. I then added a bit of water and detergent and gave it a bit of a scrub. I couldn’t really tell if the stain was completely gone at this point (hard to tell on wet jeans) but I put them in the wash as normal anyway.
After washing as normal and drying there was no sign of the ink stain. I actually can’t even tell where the stain was. I will definitely be using this easy ink stain removal method in the future if I have any more ink stains!
Ink Stain Removal Method:
- spray the ink stain generously with hairspray
- allow 15 minutes for the hairspray to partially dry
- apply small amount of water and detergent to stain and give it a scrub
- place the item of clothing in the wash as normal
This is the procedure that worked for me and I hope that you find it useful too.
