I wanted to have a go at making some more of my own earrings and I wanted them to be easy to make. In the past I have made some using milk bottle plastic and tomato sauce bottle plastic but I wanted to make some that were bright and multi-colored!
I was looking online for inspiration when I came across
this link (sorry link is broken now 🙁 ) that used card stock and washi tape to make some pretty nice earrings. So I decided to apply the same idea but instead of using cardstock I used recycled plastic.
For two of my designs I used an old (clean) plastic take away container and for the other I used an old plastic soft drink bottle. I covered a section of plastic with strips of washi tape (front and back) and then cut the plastic up into the shapes that I wanted. I was really quite easy you can make squares, rectangles or even circles if you are game!
Then I used a hole punch to make holes in the top and attached jump rings and earring hooks. I think that they look really cute and they are so quick and easy to make. They are perfect for casual summer outings where you want to add some colorful accessories but don’t want to wear something too flashy.
Also the number of earrings you can make with washi tape is endless! I haven’t got any holiday themed washi tape but if you did you could easily make Christmas earrings, Easter earrings, or even St Patrick’s Day washi tape earrings!
I know that I will be checking out the local craft store for some more colorful washi tape designs very soon!
