I have become a bit addicted to making plastic earrings lately! Last month I shared some cute earrings made from tomato sauce bottles and since then I have been wondering how I could make some plastic Halloween earrings. I wasn’t sure what to use until I came across an old orange seedling punnet in the garden shed the other day. As soon as I saw it I knew it was the perfect colour to make some pumpkin earrings with!

Most of the plant punnets in the shed are either black or green so I couldn’t believe my luck when I saw an orange one!

I had an idea for using a paper pumpkin template to make the earrings and I just love the result. The seedling punnet is made of fairly thin plastic so I knew that it would be easy to cut it into shapes. These earrings are very easy to make, finding some orange plastic is probably the hardest part!

How to Make Your Own Plastic Halloween Earrings

Paper pumpkin template:

Paste a Halloween pumpkin image (here is the one I used) into a blank word document and then resize it so that it is 2.5 cm X 2.5 cm (1 inch x 1 inch). Hint – right click on the image to bring up the resizing window.

Print out the image and then carefully cut around the pumpkin to make your template.

Making the earrings:

  1. Take you piece of orange plastic and give it a clean if it is dirty.
  2. Place the pumpkin template on your orange plastic and trace around it with an ultra-fine sharpie.
  3. Carefully cut out the plastic pumpkin being careful not to cut the stem of the pumpkin too small as this is where the jump rings will be attached.
  4. Wipe off any visible ink marks from around the edges using a damp cloth.
  5. Using a pointy object such as a compass make a hole in the stem of the plastic pumpkin.
  6. Now thread the plastic pumpkin onto a jump ring using the hole you just made.
  7. Finally add an earring hook to the jump ring and use some small pliers to close the jump ring.
  8. Repeat steps 2 – 7 to make the other earring
  9. Now all you need to do is draw on the pumpkin face with permanent marker!

Halloween is not as huge here in Australia as it is in some parts of the world but it is still nice to have a bit of fun with it anyway!
