Salami and Bacon PizzaI have to admit one of the foods that I can’t live without is pizza. There is something about the delicious smell of pizza cooking that makes it very hard to resist. However if you need to control your calories a delicious treat like pizza is very rarely on the menu. Worst still, if you are trying to lose weight, eating more than one or two pieces of traditional pizza is out of the question!

Since I can’t live in a world where pizza is off the menu I decided to create my own recipe where I could use all the yummy toppings that I like but cut back on the base. So I turned to the thinnest base that I could find – wraps. By using a wrap style of bread for my base I have been able to indulge in tasty toppings while keeping the calorie count to around 450 calories for the whole pizza!

This pizza has a very thin crust so it doesn’t slice up like a traditional pizza but the flavour of the toppings more than makes up for the lack of base!

Salami and Bacon Pizza                                                            printer-16  Print Recipe

Ingredients: (Makes two pizzas)My Low Cal Pizza

1 Teaspoon Canola Oil

1 Brown Onion (diced)

1 Large Clove Garlic (diced)

75g Bacon Pieces

50g Mild Salami

150g Sliced Capsicum

100g Shredded Light Mozzarella Cheese

50g Pizza Sauce

2 Sheets of Wrap Style Bread

(I use Mountain Bread which is available in Australia and only about 70 calories per sheet)

Method:

Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F)

Heat oil in a fry pan then add onion, garlic and bacon pieces and cook for 3 – 5 minutes or until the onion has softened and then turn off the heat.

Place you wrap bread on pizza trays and top each with pizza sauce.

Roughly halve the onion and bacon mixture and arrange over the bases and then top with pieces of salami.

Scatter the sliced capsicum over the pizzas followed by the shredded cheese and then cook pizzas for 20 minutes in the oven.

Transfer to serving plate and serve immediately. Enjoy!

Using these ingredients there is approximately 450 calories for each pizza.

I use the My Fitness Pal app on my smart phone to generate recipes and track calories.
