If you are looking for baking ideas, craft inspiration, or gardening tips you will want to check out the cool links that I found during March! I just love the wonderful mild weather that we are having at the moment. It is getting quite cool in the evenings but most days it is nice and sunny. If we can’t get any rain at least it’s sunny! With the cooler weather our summer vegetables are slowly dying back. The zucchinis are finished, the tomatoes are almost done, and the cucumbers are dying … [Read more...]
Links I Love from January
There are some really great websites out there that share some amazing ideas. Here are some of my favourite Links from January 2016. Well we are well and truly into February and the while the weather is still hot we are getting cooler nights which are quite nice. The nights have been wonderful for having a BBQ dinner outside so we will be making the most of that before the weather changes! Another thing that we have been enjoying lately is some fresh watermelon from the garden! We have … [Read more...]
Controlling Purple Oxalis Weed
I know that there are some pretty ornamental oxalis plants that exist but in my garden the oxalis plant is hated. I have talked about controlling the soursob variety of oxalis in the past but in this post I am focusing on my other arch enemy the creeping purple oxalis! It is such a horrible weed, you can control it by digging it out but because it has a mass of stems and roots under the ground it is hard to get it all. If you don’t get it all then it just re-shoots again! We have got some of … [Read more...]
My Garden: How I Plant Carrots
I got sick and tired of pulling up funny shaped carrots that are all twisted and hard to cook with so I worked out a better way to plant my carrot seeds! When I was a kid I used to love eating carrots straight from the garden. Sometimes they would be funny shapes, a bit twisted and bent, but they always tasted way better than the bought ones! When I got back into growing vegetables a couple of years ago a carrot patch was one of the first things that I planted. I tried to plant the carrot … [Read more...]

Growing Bulbs in Containers
You don’t need a large garden to grow lots of beautiful bulbs. Try growing bulbs in containers to bring some spring and summer colour to your home! We have most of our bulbs in containers dotted around the garden close to the house. Personally I find growing bulbs in containers very easy and quite convenient. You can place the bulb containers around the house in positions that suit their needs. Also you can position them for maximum impact. During spring, over the last couple of years we … [Read more...]
Looking for Garden Pests at Night
I’ve been gardening for a while now so I have encountered quite a few garden pests. I’ve had to deal with aphids on the roses and cabbage white butterfly attacking my broccoli. Usually it is possible to have a close look at the plants to see what is doing the damage. That hasn’t been the case for our Dutch iris this year; they were being eaten by something that we couldn’t find! A similar thing happened last year that spoilt the flowers and it is very annoying! Last year we found that there … [Read more...]
