Links I Love from September
If you’re looking for some baking, craft, DIY or gardening inspiration then you need to check out these awesome links that I saw during September! The Links I Love feature photo this month is a bit misleading. It was taken on one of the very rare sunny days that we had last month. In actual fact September was very wet here! I will admit, we did have a few days that were sunny and spring like, but most of the time it was either raining or very dull and grey! When the weather was nice I … [Read more...]
Benefits of Using Pine Needles as Mulch
Do you have pine trees in your garden? Or maybe you know someone who has pine trees. Either way you will have access to pine needles that you can use around the garden. We have 4 pine trees along the back fence of our yard. They are not massive trees but they are big enough that they drop lots of needles. It seems a waste to let the pine needles just lay there and rot so I thought I’d use them as mulch. I know that strawberry plants like them and I have used some around my strawberries but … [Read more...]

The statue was on loan from the US to help the city celebrate the Bendigo Art Gallery’s Marilyn Monroe exhibition. It … [Read more...]

Links I Love from May
Wow didn’t May go fast! I can’t believe that we are almost half way through the year already! Last month I was excited because we were finally starting to get some rain for the garden. Since then it has been very wet and we even had our first real frost last week! In fact the weather has been so cold, wet, and miserable these last few weeks our cats will go outside, see how miserable it looks, and then come back in again to sleep in the warm! To contrast the miserable weather this month’s … [Read more...]
How to Tell When a Green Apple is Ripe
We have a couple of apple trees in our garden; a green apple which is a Granny Smith plus a red variety which is a Jonathon. So far we have had a fairly good harvest of apples this year. The Jonathon apples were ready in late February and it was great eating them straight from the tree on a summers evening. They are all gone now! The Granny Smith (green apple) matures a bit later so that tree is loaded with fruit at the moment. We have had it covered with bird netting for the last few weeks … [Read more...]
