If you like to pamper your hands, you need to try this DIY lemon sugar hand scrub. It’s easy to make, smells lovely, and your hands will be so soft!
Isn’t it funny when you find something that is really useful when you weren’t actually looking for it! Often when we are online we are looking for something very specific. That’s why it’s great when you are just doing some random browsing and you come across a good idea that you can really use.
That happened to me recently when I came across a blog called Cheap Recipe Blog that was sharing a DIY Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub recipe. I got really excited because we have a lemon tree that is loaded with lemons at the moment and also because I love having a go at making homemade stuff!
I also felt that I could use the hand scrub because it doesn’t take much to get dry hands. Tasks like doing dishes, general cleaning, and working in the garden can really dry them out.
I have to admit that I’m a bit fussy about using hand creams; I hate the feeling of greasy hands! I usually put hand cream on at night just before I go to bed. But often my hands are a bit dry during the day so I was keen to try out the lemon sugar hand scrub.
It was really easy to make, just mix the three ingredients together and then put the scrub into a suitable sized jar for storage. I did modify the original recipe slightly though. I added a bit more sugar to the mix because there seemed to be a little bit too much oil.
Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub Recipe
- 1 ½ cups of white sugar
- ½ cup of olive oil
- zest and juice (3 – 4 tablespoons) of one small lemon
- Combine all three ingredients in a bowl and mix thoroughly.
- Transfer the sugar scrub to a jar (or jars) with tight fitting lid.
Using 1 ½ cups of sugar I made enough to fill a 100 g (3.5 oz.) coffee jar. I found that the empty coffee jar was perfect for storing the sugar scrub because it has a really tight fitting sealed lid.
This lemon sugar hand scrub would make a great handmade gift idea. I might save some more of these empty jars so I can make some more scrub for my friends and family!
The sugar seems to act as an exfoliant and the oil is softening and makes it easy to rub over your hands. After using the scrub I found that my hands were no longer dry and felt very soft and smooth. I will be keeping a jar of this lemon sugar hand scrub beside my bathroom sink!
