If you’re craving the rich taste of hot fudge sauce without the hassle, this simple 2‑ingredient version is perfect. It’s a quick, cosy way to enjoy warm, chocolatey goodness whenever the craving hits — no saucepan, no long ingredient list, no effort.

Why I Love This Shortcut

When I think about hot fudge sauce, my brain goes straight to McDonald’s. I don’t eat at McDonald’s very often, but when I do, a hot fudge sundae usually sneaks into my order. The warm, thick chocolate sauce over soft‑serve ice cream is just too hard to resist.

At home, I rarely eat plain vanilla ice cream on its own — I usually serve it over something like a plum crumble, or on my Nutella mug cake. And if I do have just ice cream, I’ll add Hershey’s chocolate syrup or a hard-shell chocolate topping. But let’s be honest… it’s not the same as real hot fudge sauce.

Spoon drizzling warm hot fudge sauce over vanilla ice cream in a white bowl, with Hershey’s syrup, chocolate buttons and an ice-cream scoop in the background.

Most homemade hot fudge recipes make a big batch in a saucepan, and that’s not what I want when the craving hits late at night. I only get a craving for hot fudge sauce every now and then, so I don’t want to pull out a dozen ingredients, dirty a pot, and then have leftovers sitting in the fridge for weeks.

And then I had an idea.

How My 2‑Ingredient Fudge Became Hot Fudge Sauce

A couple of years ago, I created a recipe for 2‑ingredient fudge using chocolate buttons and Hershey’s syrup. It worked because the chocolate sets when cooled, but the syrup keeps it soft enough to become fudge.

To turn it into hot fudge sauce, all I had to do was flip the ratios.

Instead of lots of chocolate and a little syrup, this version uses mostly Hershey’s syrup with just enough chocolate buttons to thicken it. When heated, the chocolate melts into the syrup and creates a warm, glossy, thick hot fudge sauce — in seconds.

I’ve played around with other chocolate toppings in this recipe, and they work, but Hershey’s always tastes the best to me.

Why This Method Works

  • You only need two ingredients you probably already have.
  • There’s no saucepan and barely any washing up. Just mix everything in one mug or bowl.
  • It takes about 20 seconds in the microwave. Truly.
  • You can make a single serving whenever you want — no leftovers to store.

How to Serve Hot Fudge Sauce

I love spooning it over ice cream, but it’s also delicious on:

  • brownies
  • mug cakes
  • chocolate cake
  • pancakes
  • waffles
  • fruit
  • or anything that needs a warm chocolate moment

Description

Make this quick 2-ingredient hot fudge sauce in seconds. Rich, warm, chocolatey, and perfect for ice cream, brownies, pancakes, and late‑night cravings.

Ingredients

1 1/2 tablespoons of Hershey’s chocolate syrup

15g (5 or 6) chocolate buttons (I prefer dark chocolate but you can use milk chocolate if you want)

Instructions

Combine the chocolate and Hershey’s syrup in a microwave‑safe mug or bowl.

Microwave for 20 seconds.

Stir until smooth and glossy.

Pour over your dessert of choice… or eat it with a spoon. No judgement.

Notes

You can experiment with the amount of chocolate that you use if you like. If you want your sauce to be thicker, just add another chocolate button or two. If you want your sauce to be a bit thinner, just reduce the number of buttons or add some more syrup.

This recipe also works perfectly with other brands of chocolate topping if you don’t have, or prefer not to use, Hershey’s syrup.
