If you are looking for an online activity that is great for both children and adults you can’t go past a good jigsaw. I have been doing jigsaws online for years and can thoroughly recommend it as a fun activity to do online while still exercising your brain.
The five online jigsaw puzzle links that I have included can be used by both children and adults with the majority of the websites offering jigsaw size options. This feature also means that beginners can start by completing jigsaw puzzles with only a small number of pieces and progress to puzzles with more pieces as they get more confident. Some of the online jigsaw puzzle links offer other special features so I have provided the links below and included information on their features.
Online Jigsaw Puzzles
1. TheJigsawPuzzles.com
I really like this site because you can do as many jigsaws as you like without having to sign up to anything.
- Puzzle of the day
- Can vary difficulty of each puzzle (20 – 500 pieces)
- Shape of pieces can be altered
- Full screen mode
- Preview button
- Can do edges first
- Hint feature
- Pause button for timer
- Zoom function
- Can search for more puzzles by category or keyword
Tip
- If you need to move a group of pieces – click and drag to select the group, then click and hold within the area you selected and drag the pieces to where you need them
2. puzzletouch.com
This website also has lots of features but adds an extra degree of difficulty to the puzzle because the pieces need to be rotated into the correct orientation as well as the correct position.
- Can vary difficulty of each puzzle (6 – 200 pieces)
- Can customise the number of pieces for each puzzle
- Full screen mode
- Preview button
- Zoom function
- Can select puzzles by category
- Save button so you can come back later
- Can create puzzles from you own photos which can be emailed to friends and family (Although, I’m yet to have success with this as it seems to take ages to create the puzzle!)
3. Jigidi.com
Features
- Can select groups of puzzles with varying difficulty (From small, 0-60 pieces to huge, 400+ pieces)
- Full screen mode
- Pause button for timer
- Zoom function
- Can search puzzles by category
Drawbacks
- Can’t do the edges first
- Can only preview the completed puzzle by clicking pause
4. Puzz-it.com
- Can vary difficulty of each puzzle (16 – 900 pieces)
- Can preview finished puzzle image as you complete
- Can upload you own photo to create a puzzle
- Can use a URL of a photo to create a puzzle
- Can select random photos from flickr or picasa to create a puzzle
5. Shockwave.com: Daily Jigsaw
This is the first online jigsaw site that I ever used you can only do one jigsaw per day without becoming a member but it is still a good site with some great features so I can thoroughly recommend it.
Features
- Puzzle of the day
- Puzzles get increasingly more difficult as each week progresses
- Can select from a range of puzzle sizes
- Preview button
- Can do edges first
- Hint features
- Pause button for timer
- Includes a number of display options (e.g. background colour)
- Can move, shuffle, rotate and arrange the pieces easily
All of the features that I have outlined above refer to the unsubscribed/free version of each website. Some of the websites have extra functions and puzzles available if users join or subscribe to their site. There are many more online jigsaw websites available but in my opinion the above websites offer a superior user experience. It is possible to complete good quality online jigsaw puzzles at all of the above websites without having to join, register or subscribe to the websites.
Happy puzzling 🙂
