Simple Cat Toy Storage Idea

Last updated on: October 27, 2021 By Kaylene Filed Under: Animals, Pets, Storage and Organising 1 Comment

Grey and white cat in a leopard print play tunnel. There are lots of various cat toys in the foreground and two cat trees in the background.

Cat toy storage can be an issue when you have multiple cats and lots of toys in the house. We found a simple solution to cat toy storage that complements our décor! The cats that we had years ago spent a lot of time outside, so they didn’t have many toys. Nowadays our cats spend more time inside. Firstly, because our local council has a cat curfew at night, but also because we have installed cat nets to limit how far they can roam. We installed the cat nets a few years back after one of … [Read more...]

How to Grow Cat Grass from a Surprisingly Simple Source of Seeds!

Last updated on: July 2, 2019 By Kaylene Filed Under: Gardening, Pets 4 Comments

The cat grass that I have grown myself has been a huge hit with our cats Maddy and Wally! thelinkssite.com

We adopted our two cats (Maddy and Wally) almost five year ago now and they have always been fond of eating some grass. Initially we didn’t have actual cat grass. Instead the cats would eat some of the grassy weeds that would inevitably pop up here and there. They also liked to munch on some of the longer buffalo grass in the lawn. A couple of years ago we purchased a pot of cat grass to give them another source of grass to munch on. But to say that it wasn’t very popular would be an … [Read more...]

Blue bowl containing dry cat food with small black ants walking around the edge of the bowl. Text overlay says: How to Keep Ants Out of Cat Food! (a quick & easy DIY).

Are you frustrated by ants getting into your cat’s food bowl? This simple DIY will show you how to keep ants out of cat food bowls quickly and easily. Our two cats (Maddy and Wally) are part inside and part outside cats. They have a few hours outside each day and are brought back inside in the late afternoon. When they are out during the day we always put out some dry food for them to eat. There’s no issue with doing this over winter because there’s not many ants around. Once the weather … [Read more...]

Sweet Homemade Gift for Mother’s Day

Last updated on: May 1, 2020 By Kaylene Filed Under: Craft, Decorations/Gifts, Family, Holidays, Mother's Day Leave a Comment

Looking down into the top of a plastic container that is filled with Éclair lollies. The container is decorated with washi tape and extra lollies are scattered around the outside. A gift tag address to Mum is attached with twine.

In just a few minutes you can turn an empty container into a beautiful homemade gift for mum that is filled with her favourite sweets! I am not really a yogurt lover but I have been eating a bit of the Jalna pot set yoghurt lately. It’s mainly to boost my calcium intake a bit because I don’t eat a lot of other dairy. I’ve never liked yoghurt in the past but now I am starting to get a bit of a taste for the creamy vanilla flavour! Apart from boosting my calcium intake my yoghurt consumption … [Read more...]

Easy Homemade Sock Cat Toy

Last updated on: March 30, 2016 By Kaylene Filed Under: Animals, Craft, DIY, How To, Pets 11 Comments

If you want to make a cheap and easy cat toy from items commonly found around the house you can’t go past these homemade sock cat toys! Both of our cats still love the cork cat toys that I made last year but Wally in particular needs lots of mental stimulation. That means that the toys he plays with need to be varied quite often! I recently decided to make up another cat toy using old socks. Wally likes to play with my old shoes (see here) so I thought that he would love an old sock! I … [Read more...]

Easy Washi Tape Mother’s Day Vase

Last updated on: April 24, 2020 By Kaylene Filed Under: Craft, Decorations/Gifts, Family, Holidays, Mother's Day Leave a Comment

Vase made from a clear glass jar that has been decorated with washi tape in shades of pink and purple. The vase is filled with white chrysanthemums and pink carnations. A small ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ gift tag is attached with pink curling ribbon.

This weekend is Mother’s Day and I wanted to make a personalised gift for my mum this year. The first present that came to mind that I know that she will absolutely love (as do most mothers) is flowers. My mum is especially into flower because her hobby is floral arranging.  I pretty much know that if I give here anything to do with flowers it will be a hit! This year I thought rather than just giving her a bunch of flowers I would make a Mother’s Day vase that I could fill with flowers for … [Read more...]

National Pet Adoption Day

Last updated on: February 7, 2015 By Kaylene Filed Under: Animals, Family, Pets Leave a Comment

I could not let today pass without writing a post in support of National Pet Adoption Day. This event is one that is close to my heart, and that of my family, because we welcomed two adopted cats into our home a little over 12 months ago. Pet ownership is not for everyone but after our experience I would urge anyone who is contemplating getting at pet to consider adopting one from one of the many animal shelters around the country. The idea of getting a new kitten or puppy from a breeder or … [Read more...]
