Cat toy storage can be an issue when you have multiple cats and lots of toys in the house. We found a simple solution to cat toy storage that complements our décor!
The cats that we had years ago spent a lot of time outside, so they didn’t have many toys. Nowadays our cats spend more time inside. Firstly, because our local council has a cat curfew at night, but also because we have installed cat nets to limit how far they can roam.
We installed the cat nets a few years back after one of our cats was bitten by a snake. The vets had to work hard to save him, so we installed cat nets soon after.
Since then, they have spent more time inside and we’ve inevitably ended up with more cat toys hanging around! On top of that, last year we lost one of our cats to illness and then we adopted two kittens. Two young kittens in the house meant that the number of cat toys hanging around really increased!
How We Solved Our Cat Toy Storage Issues
When considering how to store all the toys we wanted something that didn’t obviously look like a toy box and would also fit in with our living room furniture. So, our simple solution to storing all our cat toys is a storage ottoman. You can get them in lots of varied sizes and colours so it’s easy to match one with your décor. Many people use them for rugs and cushions – we use ours for cat toys!
Our ottoman was around $50 which we thought was reasonable and it’s a decent size at 76 cm/30 inches long, 43 cm/17 inches wide, and 40 cm/16 inches high. It holds quite a bit because most of the cat toys are small (think balls, mice, and kickers). It is even roomy enough to fit a couple of boxed toys that we have. They’re the battery-operated toys that we only bring out every now and again to keep them fresh and interesting.
As you can see from the picture below even cats can fit in!
It is really handy to have around actually. Not only does it hold all the cat toys it also doubles as an extra piece of furniture. It is quite sturdy so we can use it for extra seating or as a footrest if we need to. The cats like to sit on it too!
When vacuuming it’s great to be able to just take the top off and throw all the cat toys in. We find it great for rotating the toys for the cats. They tend to get bored with them after a while so we can put one set of toys into storage in the ottoman and get another few out.
No one would know it is filled with cat toys!

This is a very good idea, indeed a purrfect storage solution. I guess it’s high time for me to declutter a bit of my cats’ toys. Great article, thanks for sharing.
