Oh my goodness it has been an insanely hot summer so far! Most of January was hot but the middle two weeks were the worst. We had 15 days in a row over 30 °C (86 °F) and seven of those were over 40 °C (104 °F)! I love summer but that is just too hot! The only upside to weather that hot is that you get to have lots of cold drinks, ice cream and other cooling treats.

One cooling drink that I have enjoyed during the hot weather is this Snickers Milkshake. I’m calling it a milkshake to avoid confusing my international readers. But here in Australia a shake with this much ice cream is called a thick shake!

Whether you call it a milkshake or a thick shake it is definitely a wonderful recipe to try over summer. I can assure you that it goes down a treat on a hot summer’s day!  I have enjoyed a few of these over the last month!

A metal milkshake cup and milkshake maker can be seen in the background. The idea for this milkshake/thick shake came about one day when I was browsing Pinterest. I wanted to make a shake but wasn’t settled on the flavour. Normally I would just do a plain chocolate milkshake but I wanted to have a go at making a fancy milkshake. When I came across this Snickers Milkshake recipe it gave me the inspiration to make my own!

Snickers Bars are probably my favourite chocolate bar and the thought of having one in milkshake form was very tempting. So I went to the pantry to see what I had on hand that would give me the classic chocolate, caramel, and peanut Snickers flavour!

I thought I’d probably have to make a few milkshakes before I was happy with the result. And that was okay – testing milkshake flavours during a heatwave was a task I was up for! 😉

To my surprise however, I hit on a great snickers milkshake recipe first time! I used vanilla ice cream, milk, Hershey’s syrup (caramel and chocolate), and peanut butter.

Close up of the top of a milkshake in a tall glass with a pink straw.I was very pleased with the delicious blend of chocolate, caramel and peanut butter flavours! It has just enough caramel and peanut flavour to give it a definite snickers flavour. If you love Snickers bars this is the milkshake you need!

I didn’t want the peanut butter to dominate the flavours so I only used a small amount. If you prefer a stronger peanut butter flavour you could add more to suit your taste.

That’s what I love about this recipe – it is fully customisable! For example if you don’t want it as thick, you can add more milk and less ice cream. Similarly you can add more or less of the Hersey’s syrups if you want. If you want a more caramel flavour just add more of that syrup.

I used a milkshake maker to mix it up but you could use any blender, smoothie maker, or a stick mixer.

I love how this Snickers milkshake is delicious and it cools you down. With another month of summer left I will definitely be making it again very soon. Who am I kidding; I’m sure I’ll find an excuse to make this milkshake all year round!
