Easy Washi Tape Mother’s Day Vase

Last updated on: April 24, 2020 By Kaylene Filed Under: Craft, Decorations/Gifts, Family, Holidays, Mother's Day Leave a Comment

Vase made from a clear glass jar that has been decorated with washi tape in shades of pink and purple. The vase is filled with white chrysanthemums and pink carnations. A small ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ gift tag is attached with pink curling ribbon. This weekend is Mother’s Day and I wanted to make a personalised gift for my mum this year. The first present that came to mind that I know that she will absolutely love (as do most mothers) is flowers. My mum is especially into flower because her hobby is floral arranging.  I pretty much know that if I give here anything to do with flowers it will be a hit! This year I thought rather than just giving her a bunch of flowers I would make a Mother’s Day vase that I could fill with flowers for her.

I had an old coffee jar that I thought would look great as a vase but I needed to come up with an idea for how to decorate it. I have to admit that I am not that artistic, so trying to come up with something that was completely original but that didn’t look like the work of a pre-schooler was difficult!

A glass jar has been decorated with washi tape to make a pretty vase. The vase is filled with chrysanthemums and carnations and is decorated with ribbon and a ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ gift tag. That was until I came across this great idea from Brittany at Pretty Handy Girl for using washi tape (check it out here).  I love this idea because it is really simple but it looks really effective. Also it is super quick to do and you could take the washi tape off and change it later if you wanted to.

I used pink and purple coloured washi tape, because it went with the colours of the flowers that I had, but you could use any colours that your mum likes. I then made up a quick label and attached it with curling ribbon. Add your flowers and you’re done – so simple!

Making a Mother’s Day Vase

What you need:

  • old clean jar
  • washi tape (I got mine from Spotlight)
  • scissors
  • paper label (can be printed or hand written)
  • curling ribbon
  • water
  • flowers

Method:

  • wrap washi tape around your jar (use a much or as little as you like!)
  • make a label (or print mine)
  • attach label with curling ribbon
  • add water and flowers
  • give to your mum!

It is just so easy; if your mum likes flowers then she will love this unique vase too! Do you have any other homemade Mother’s Day gift suggestions?
